The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of edentulousness and the prosthetic treatment need in a sample of the over 18-year-old inhabitants of Palermo (Italy). A stratified sample of 385 subjects (183 female and 202 male) was taken to represent the population of the city. Each subject included in the study was examined to record the level of edentulousness (complete edentulousness, partial edentulousness, intact dentition) and the level of denture wearing. Requirement for repair of dentures was recorded according to the marginal fitting for fixed dentures, and to the extension, stability and retention for removable dentures. Deliberative democracy and the European Convention on Human Rights Theories of deliberative democracy have rapidly become very popular amongst political scientists. The central argument of these theories is that democratic legitimacy of lawmaking does not lie (or does not only lie) in the elected character of Parliaments but in public delib- eration processes. The sixth principle of the Charte de la Ligue Internationale de l’Education Nouvelle of 1921 emphasizes the concept of coeducation. The definition of this concept provides interesting insights to launch a proactive debate on the need to increase the male presence in primary school teaching staff. First of all, some results of empir- ical research that support the request to increase the number of male teachers in the primary school are displayed. Secondly, the most significant measures adopted by some States to promote the figure of the male primary school teacher are described. Finally, a few proposals are made on what could be done in Italy.

During 2020, the Mediterranean Sea was again the testing ground for migration flows from North Africa and the Middle East to Italy, Greece and Spain. 2020 was also a complex year due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Movements between countries were affected by the spread of the virus that spared no one and imposed the need to reflect on 'global health' and the consequences that this has, also in the relationship between countries and in travel.
